30/4/2016: A PIER TOO FAR????

A pic of the pier at New Brighton snapped thanks to the wee Air New Zealand twin prop's approach to Quakeville's airport on Thursday.

See posting of 21/5/2016! Who says tomorrow never comes????

29/4/2016: AN ART HEIST IN PALMERSTON NORTH??

Is someone stealing GIANTS AMONGST US? One of the popular sculptures that adorn the streets of the Manawatu city or, is it a new outdoor coffee delivery service for those frequenting Cafe Cuba on the right??

Nah, its just some repairs to the building at the rear!

Ta 'M'.

21/4/2016: THIS IS A MESSAGE FOR SEVEN HONEYMOONING COUPLES IN KAIKOURA - BREAKFAST WAS SERVED THREE DAYS AGO!

New Brighton is in the NEWS again. Well, its pier is if you have a quick read of this article in the nation's top woman's mag. The owner of the Lighthouse Cafe on Shaw Avenue is worried that this pit outside his popular cafe will take as long as the pier to repair.

Or will this bridge being built over the Firth of Forth tween Edinburgh and Fife beat them both??

The original forth rail bridge is on the far right, the more modern, but chockka, road bridge is next and the new one and its flowers - pic taken from the Edinburgh side.

Thanks to Ronnie and Liz.

20/4/2016: AFTER A SERIES OF CRIMES IN THE NEW BRIGHTON AREA, DETECTIVE INSPECTOR McTAVISH HAS ANNOUNCED HE IS LOOKING FOR A MAN WITH ONE EYE. IF HE DOESN'T FIND HIM, HE IS GOING TO USE BOTH EYES.

Is this turdy looking thing animal, vegetable, mineral or .............. first correct answer wins a giant chocolate fish!

Thanks to Ronnie and 'M'.

19/4/2016: WE WILL BE TALKING TO AN OUT-OF-WORK CONTRORTIONIST WHO SAYS HE CAN NO LONGER MAKE ENDS MEET!!

Now here's a view of the former Christchurch Anglican cathedral folks might not see again - the the arse-end of the unsightly building's rubble is behind the tree - Will the God Botherers ever make their ends meet?

18/4/2016: NOW FOR SOME FENCING NEWS!

Here's a book by Christchurch fencer Peter Campbell you should read ....

The Champion: How to be Mentally and Physically Fit to Win brings together all the information any sportsperson needs in order to train and perform at a high level in sport.

You can buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Champion-How-Mentally-Physically-ebook/dp/B01DLY5YPM

And you can come and meet and fence Peter at the University of Canterbury's Fencing Club, the nation's oldest fencing club and the largest epee only club, on Saturday mornings. Oh, and this tooooooooooooooo

It is time for the club's annual Eccleston one-hit epee competition. Alas Eckky will not be attending this year, but he has provided a fencing rant that will be published soon!!

16/4/2016: POLICE ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THEY WISH TO INTERVIEW A MAN WEARING HIGH-HEELS AND FRILLY NICKERS, BUT THE CHIEF CONSTABLE SAID THEY MUST WEAR THEIR NORMAL UNIFORMS!!

A knock-it-down at work on Manchester Street a few days ago.

Does that mean the end of this Manchester Wall and the freedom of the road and footpath?

No, see HERE! They do plan to widen the street and turn it into a garden. Truly - have you seen how they have eviscerated Colombo Street in the former central city??

And they have demolished the former Excelsior Hotel and its facade, seen here propped up for rebuilding, just to widen a street.

Now here's a bit of Excelsior history - have you heard the story about Garry and his football mates being kicked out of the Excelsior?

Local dairy owner Garry and mates were celebrating in the once popular central city pub when asked to tone the noise down. They did, all crouching to the floor with no diminution of their drunken hilarity. They were all ejected by the pissed-off manager!!

Read about the demolition of another part of Quakesville's inner-city heritage HERE!!!

Thanks Ronnie.

15/4/2016: SAYRAH HAS PACKED HER NICKERS AND GONE BUT GERRY AND THE WASTEMAKERS STAY.

Oh no, here we go again ......... remember this?????????

Read more in the nation's top women's MAGAZINE!

And will Leanne hang around to lead her lads and lassies??

13/4/2016: THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE INLAND REVENUE DEPARTMENT IN WELLINGTON TODAY, BUT IT WAS PUT OUT BEFORE ANY SERIOUS GOOD WAS DONE!

In Palmerston North ducks and other wading birds had to take to asphalt because of the heavy rain on Tuesday!

Thanks to Ronnie and "M".

12/4/2016: It was recently revealed in a Government survey that the Prime Minister is doing the work of two men - Laurel and Hardy!!!

Here two men - no Prime Minister in sight - clean the River Avon near Manchester Street.

Now read more here about the Prime Minister and his partner and their new Quakesville PORTFOLIO!

Wots a PORTFOLIO???

(Thanks to the former British comic Ronnie Corbett.)

11/4/2016: HOWZ THE REBUILD OF THE CATHEDRAL GOING??

Was one request from an overseas reader of this site.

Here's how its going .......

Looking towards the former Cathedral from over the Avon River by the former Edmonds band rotunda - lotsa cranes beavering away with the rebuild round High and Lichfield Streets and nothing but wrack and ruin round the former Anglican Cathedral !

Coffee talk is that six years ago after the Great Catastrophe the few central-city survivors desparate for a quaff broke into this building!?

Through here?? The side wall of the former Robert Harris Cafe, which is opposite the burgeoning Ballentynes' department store on Colombo Street, the other day.

6/4/2016: MAGIC OR NOT .... ?????

Just hours after casting a spell in New Regent Street the other day came the breathless announcement the the central Christchurch street will re-open to trams and humans!!!

Read more HERE!

4/4/2016: THE CHANGING FACE OF MANCHESTER STREET, CHRISTCHURCH - aka QUAKESVILLE!

1970's A question for you know-it-alls - can you name the famous Kiwi artist whose son was abducted/kidnapped and hurled into a Christchurch City Council rubbish truck from the upstairs flat on the left??

2010.After the Great Catastrophe.

2012.Still no people but lots less buildings as Gerry and his Wastemakers got to work.

A FEW DAYS AGO. A few people but bugger-all buildings.

2/4/2016: ABRACADABRA!!!!!!!!

How did he get in?

The trams have been banned and there are fences and gates the length of the street but they cannot keep the Wizard at bay?

Did he undergo site induction?? Or did he cast the spell?

The Wizard of Christchurch, or should that be Quakesville? casts a spell in New Regent Street yesterday.

Read more HERE!

1/4/2016: TALKING OF LITERACY ...

Are these weed busters or artwork??

Got a letter from Taryn Hamilton the General Manager of Orcon about its ultra-fast fibre broadband. In the wee flyer she enclosed it burbled on about curbing its UFB; " Kick the 7pm slowdown to the curb. With Orcon Fibre ....." It says!!!

Really??????????

No, this is not an April Fools joke, do Orcon not really know the difference between curb

1. something that restrains or holds back

and ?? kerb

(especially American curb) an edging, usually of stone, round a raised area, especially a pavement.

Or is this an example of the new business ESPERANTO or the big business anti-Kiwi attitude?? If so, it should be kicked into touch!!!

31/3/2016: CAN DRIVING A CAR IMPROVE YOUR LITERACY??

Read more HERE about school kids getting a pass mark in literacy for learning to drive a car ....

Wonder wot happened to this stop sign on Brougham Street and Wilson's Road the other day? Did the driver take the sign literally??

Oh, the sign has already been re-erected!!

25/3/2016: THE KIWI NATION BARED ITS ARSE YESTERDAY!!

Figuratively speaking that is for it kept them covered with this .....

The New Zealand flag.

Read more HERE!

24/3/2016: IT IS FLAG DAY!!!

The Prime Minister is fleeing and much of the country is getting ready to celebrate Easter. Also in the mix is the will it go or will it stay referendum, the decision which will be released tonight.

A flag flies over the former offices of the nation's top newspaper, The Press, in the former Cathedral Square in 2009. Question; will it still be flying tonight or squished and flattened like The Press building in the Great Catastrophe?

More here!

This week is also the centenary of the Easter Rising but will you read about it in the nation's top newspaper???? So have a look above.

23/3/2016: HOMELESS AND HYNGRY NO MORE??

After weeks of living here.......

Gone - the two homeless and hungry girls that once camped here on Annex Road.

See earlier posting 8/3/2016 for more.

Also spotted on Annex Road ....

A road cone slave cowering in the shade in yesterday's 30Deg autumnal temperatures. Occasionally the road cones would get him to scurry out and move them a few centimetres in the hot sun. Can you make sense of the the arrows pointing one way then another???

21/3/2016: SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?????????????? Look closely, it was snapped on Waltham Road in the busy suburb of Sydenham at the height of Sunday's City To Surf walk and run - see any runners or walkers?? Plenty of cars though heading past the wee Waltham Park, on the left, down to the Heathcote River.

And more fencing ...... University of Canterbury Fencing Club members jump for joy after being forced to go grazing on Saturday cos the wee room they duel in at the Jack Mann Auditorium, on the Dovedale campus, was being "used" by DramaSoc and they had to fence outside. Oh dear those pesky earthquakes are still causing problems for the nation's oldest fencing club!!

20/3/2016: MORE FENCING PIX FOR YOU ...........

Mr Davie (see previous post) might be the oldest competitor in this year's Olga Jeykll foil comp but he was swamped by these younger fencers. That's the elderly former Christchurch fencer and national epee champion Graham Harris refereeing! It is said that seven-year-old Harriet was the youngest competitor. Oh, Paul Wilson won the giant chocolate fish for getting Mr Davie's age right!!!!

And that is Diane Swain, standing left, the organiser of the day's dueling. Sitting on the right is Mark Rance the President of Fencing Mid-South, the local fencing organisation helping clubs, coaches and Fencing New Zealand, the national body controlling fencing, promote the ancient art and modern sport in Quakesville.

It is said that this fellow, with his back to you, was the oldest person attending the annual event - wots his name?? A giant cfish for the first correct answer.

19/3/2016: LISTEN HERE YOU LOT ... I am Olga and thanks for turning up at the annual Olga Jeykll foil competition.

Around fifty fencers aged from seven to seventy plus turned out at Avonside Girls High School today (Saturday) for the annual event.

This is Mr Davies, he's an older fencer and over his right shoulder are some of the younger fencers - a giant chocolate fish to the first person to tell me Jonathan's age!

MTC (MORE TO COME) More pix and results from the Olga Jeykll event tomorrow!!!

EVEN MORE FENCING GOSSIP .............................. Why are these University of Canterbury Fencing Club members grazing on the Dovedale campus????

Answer termorra ....

17/3/2016: WOW HANDS-UP FOR A SKIRT!!!

After dozens of postings about skirt: "SCIRT (Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team) is rebuilding the city's earthquake damaged roads, fresh water, wastewater and storm water networks." I got this reply after the rant about buggered gutters (see post of 7/3/2016.) ....

" Good afternoon Mr Manuge You sent a photo and a link to your website, which also has the photo with a link to a SCIRT Fulton Hogan work notice.  I have asked the SCIRT Fulton Hogan team to look into this so we can get back to you with some information about your enquiry.  Regards"

Then this arrived the other day .......................

"Hi Vic

Thank you for your patience while we looked into this for you.

Unfortunately, repairing broken gutter in the attached picture on Hargest Crescent was not in SCIRT’s scope. Our scope was only to repair the patch on the road.

I have copied the Council into this message so they can consider repairing this area as a part of their maintenance programme.

ATTN CCC: Can you please refer this query and the attached image to your maintenance team?

Kind regard

trongerchristchurch.govt.nz

SCIRT is rebuilding the city’s earthquake damaged
roads, fresh water, wastewater and storm water pipes "

And here's the buggered gutters ..

Your thoughts please on an A4 page double spaced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, just joking,

15/3/2016: STRESS RELEASE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF QUAKESVILLE!

Many have left, some take drugs while the more hardy just get on with life and a few decorate their cars.

Like these fellows .......

See, even Lianne and her Lads and Lassies are decorating cars to release their stress!

Oh, the black car has been removed so no ideas about plundering it!!

4/3/2016: HOUSE PRICES SOARING IN EAST QUAKESVILLE!!

That's the breathless story in the nation's top woman's magazine - read more HERE!!!

Here's the reason - roads to nowhere - it's cos so many houses got flattened in the Great Catastrophe!

That's The Palms shopping centre in the suburb of Shirley on the right and HERE'S A MAP to help you find your way round this part of East Quakesville!!

For those wanting a few facts with their lunch; We had five quakes yesterday and there have been 14,400 odd since September 2010 - that's 2400 a year!!! Or six a day.

Be careful of who you tell for Quakesville is supposed to be in a positive, vibrant, regeneration and not Shakin All Ova!

8/3/2016: HOMELESS AND HUNGRY IN QUAKESVILLE!

That's wot the wee cardboard sign says by these tents on Annex Road by the Marylands cycleway where it dips under the southern motorway.

Trouble is the evidence of take-aways by one of these tents in Middleton says different. Homeless maybe, but hungry?? Go and see how well-fed they look!

Is it freedom camping by another name??

7/3/2016: ROAD WORKS AND ROAD CONES - TWO THINGS TO PISS-OFF THE RESIDENTS OF QUAKE CITY! BUT WOT ABOUT BUGGERED GUTTERS??

A buggered gutter for you .... they've been repairing and patching roads, water mains and the sewerage systems in the bustling suburb of Sydenham for some years now but only in patches with much left undone or ignored even avoided.

Here's some just finished road works on Hargest Crescent by Waltham Road.

Do the buggered gutters look repaired or finished?? And see the white markings on the centre left, does that mean more to come?? Will they fix the buggered gutters then??

Here's Scirt's view!

AND wot they've done!

Is it poor planning by bureaucrats? Money-making by companies? Job making for immigrants? Corruption? Or what? Will the buggered gutters last thirty years??????

5/3/2016: AND NOW A NICE BEACH SCENE FOR YOU . ... BUT WILL IT LAST THIRTY YEARS??

This one at the forgotten sea-side eastern suburb of Quakesville is a delight to the eye.

There are even tasty-looking fish to view or play with like this fellow.

Or this tasty example.

The problem is negotiating the quake damaged roads and bridges like this exit from the still popular sea-side suburb of New Brighton!

Now then, is SCIRT waving her fanny in farewell at the residents of Quakesville??

Read more about how she plans to shag us in that former great afternoon newspaper - now a bi-weekly give-away - THE STAR!

4/3/2016: FARMING IN THE HEATHCOTE RIVER ...

Our former railway worker, now retired, got excited when told about the great heap of crap piled on the bank of the filthy river near Ensors Road by hardy workers - it happens on a regular basis he garumped!

Like our local cops, they have blocked the river to check and interrogate every passing crumb!

Even so it is a bloddy big job to extract and remove the crap as these slaves and the pyramid they have built show.

Free compost anyone????

3/3/2016: THE BUSTLING SUBURB OF SYDENHAM GETS A SWIMMING POOL ...

The new pool alongside Brougham Street, right, tween Colombo Street, left, and Buchan Street.

Read more HERE!

1/3/2016: DID THIS HOUSE FIRE IN SYDENHAM ON SUNDAY EVENING TRIGGER THE VIOLENT WEE QUAKE THAT SHOOK THE CITY ON MONDAY MORNING?

One of the two fire engines that responded to the house fire on the corner of Humbold Street and Hargest Crescent.

Firemen attack the blaze.

Locals believe the fire started in a garage when a clothes dryer exploded. The woman and two children sleeping in the house escaped unharmed but some residents had a smoky time.

Now read about the nearby quake, that shook Christchurch a few hours later, in the nation's top news site!

28/2/2016: THEIR HARD WORK AT CLUBS' DAY PAID OFF!!

Taking their first tentative fencing steps - new members of the nation's oldest fencing club.

And afterwards they were fed and watered with cake, samis, coffee, tea and other tasty things.

See!!!!!!

While the more mature members of the University of Canterbury Fencing Club, Jaco, left, Mr America and the Bretausaurus watch Andreas perform a fencing dance.

Since the 2011 earthquake the popular student club has been on and off campus cos of quake damage to the Student Association's ballroom and hall and the scarcity of suitable spaces, (It became the only club in New Zealand, if not the world, to fence in a bar/pub.) but thanks to Waltham Primary School and Christchurch Boys High School the club of determined duelists managed to fight on.

Now it is back on campus in the Jack Mann Auditorium on the Dovedale campus and YOU can join HERE!

25/2/2016: HUNDREDS WAVED SWORDS ABOUT AND STABBED AND SLASHED AT THE CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY FENCING CLUB'S SIGN-UP DAYS EARLIER THIS WEEK BUT NOBODY WAS INJURED!

Mr Vice and Slaw (Chris and Sarah) were on hand to sign up the newbies on a noisy, hot day.

But it was this motoring club that was the most prepared - comfortable chairs in a nice cool paddling pool kept both officials and the more derring-do cool!

More info on where, when and how HERE!!!

20.3.2016: FIVE YEARS ON ......

And the rumpled bridge to the beach-side suburb of New Brighton still awaits its fate.

While thousands use the beach and pier.

Lovely ladies grace the mall.

And others are sitting pretty.

New Brighton is Best!!

19/2/2016: ONLY FOUR MORE DAYS TO THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE 'GREAT CATASTROPHE'!

But many of us in the central city have been woken by the THUD, THUD! reminiscent of Gerry and his Wastemakers' eradication of his "old dungas" - those buildings deemed no longer suitable for the Garden City.

The source of all that early morning thudding? - piles being driven into the former central city swamp known as the City Mall by High Street and Cashel Streets. That new construction in the background is where the old Hallensteins' building once stood.

So it's a thudder-upper rather than the previous knock-it-downers, trouble is ... This is wot is going-upper in the Garden City - gray concrete and glass - yuck!!

15/2/2016: THE EARTH MOVED AGAIN YESTERDAY.

It did, less than an hour after taking a pix of these tourists and visitors inspecting the refurbished memorial to those that died five years ago in the February Earthquake.

Guess that's wot you get when you post stuff about earthquakes the day before? Read more HERE in the nation's top quake paper!

Apart from minor liquefaction and falling cliffs in the beach-side suburbs the only obvious damage I could find in central Quakesville was this ....

  A broken branch.

Though I did hear from a friend who had just lined up in front of his toilet for a pee when the quake struck - I'll leave it to your imagination to visualise what happened next!!

Plus a former railway worker, now retired, had one of his railway cups smashed by a falling railway lantern. Very strange when you know the railway's crockery was specially designed to survive being heaved out the window of a railway carriage while the train was moving.

Now, Were these tourists still taking pictures of the memorial to the 2011 quake when the earth moved??

13/2/2016: THEY WALKED, THEY CYCLED, THEY DROVE AND SOME EVEN CAME BY BUS!!!

But all were heads down and arses up this morning helping clean and repair the striking memorial to those that died in the Great Catastrophe five years ago. More than forty folks turned out to help Christchurch artist and former flower-grower, Pete Majendie, tidy-up the memorial across Madras Street from the site of the former Canterbury Television building. The place where many died when the building collapsed and burned, is top left, and the "new" Christchurch Anglican cathedral is on the right.

Here Pete uses the handle of a rake to stir paint before all 185 chairs were repainted.

All that remains of CTV today.

After the Great Catastrophe the lift and stairwell.

And now ....

Pete wants to make the popular memorial permanent by moving it across the road, behind him, to the vacant CTV site as this wee model shows - read more ...... Pete's proposed Christchurch Earthquake Memorial,

Read more about the chair memorial in the nation's top women's' mag!

12/2/2016: THE MONEY OR THE BRIDGE, OR SHOULD THAT BE THE PIE?

The gateway to the seaside suburb of New Brighton - it looks flamin ugly, rumpled and rippled by the Great Catastrophe five years ago.

But look closely and you'll see the head and shoulders of a slave on the left working away on the bridge built in the 1930's and due for replacement by 2023!

You can find out more by looking up a skirt .. truly - More here ....

Now for something more substantial and tasty ...

Mum Dot's pies at the family Ruelle Eatery on on the corner of Rodney Street and Oram Avenue near the beach at New Brighton.

8/2/2016: MORE CHANGES IN BUSTLING SYDENHAM!

Gone! The Funky Pumpkin, the ever popular fruit and vege market on Colombo Street.

Now!A vast wasteland awaiting regeneration.

Wot does the wily Jimmy have in mind for its rebuild/rebirth?

Come again soon.

6/2/2016: MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE BEING MADE FROM ROAD CONES IN QUAKE CITY!

The Government collects GST, goods and services tax, on 'em while other sectors of the Bureaucracy make a mint out of providing courses for humans in RCM, road cone management! Even the Police have to undergo road cone policing.

Now this ... Is the Wilson Parking Company cashing in on 'em too with monthly specials to encourage 'em?? A view of the Buchan Street park in the bustling wee suburb of Sydenham.

Now for some, well sort of, good news. The British Government is thinking of whacking vast fines on local councils and contractors who abandon their roadworks on weekends causing great grief and hardship to taxpayers and motorists ... Now would Gerry and his Wastemakers and his Government do the same in Quakesville and what would Lianne and her Lads and Lassies do?

4/2/2016: WOT HAS CRICKET AND FENCING GOT IN COMMON??

Right-handers and Left-handers!

All dressed in white or sickly colours who bash the crap out of each other!

But fencing doesn't have an anthem like THIS! Though fencers known as, the Sharp Blacks, like to beat our Aussie cousins too as did the Black Caps. Click on the cap to read more....

2/2/2016: WOT A DIFFERENCE A SUBURB MAKES.

In the former city centre they spend $25,000 on a street sign... For the tourists of course.

While all that the bustling suburb of Sydenham gets is this rusty eyesore...For the locals of course!

1/2/2016: DO YOU WEAR A BIKE HELMET?

Of course you do, to survive the attacks by crazed or incompetent motorists and because those that should know, say it keeps the number of cyclists lower. Would YOU cycle if you did not have to wear and care for a crash helmet??

WARNING:

"WEARING A BICYCLE HELMET CAN INCREASE RISK TAKING AND SENSATION SEEKING IN ADULTS" ....

You're joking?

Nope, more by Tim Gamble and Ian Walker HERE!! It is down the page a bit and dated Jan 6th.

31/1/2016: A STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN????

Nah, that's the Led Zep song, you can listen to it above, this is the Quakesville version ...

Deserted and abandoned in the wee central city suburb of Avonside after the quakes ...

And the other day, five years after!!! Gone. What will grow here, apart from the weeds??

30/1/2016: THEY ARE DOING IT AGAIN IN NEW BRIGHTON!!

There is not enough room 'tween the flags for an elephant said one visitor to this site, while another reader who knows, reckons there should be 50-metres between 'em (previous post).

Anyway we should all kiss and make up as this scintillating art work in the sea-side suburb shows ......

You can see it here in the mall .....

28/1/2016: BEACH-GOERS ARE EXHORTED TO SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS!

The flags at New Brighton beach yesterday - there were no drownings! Wonder why? Not enough space tween the flags??? Now read about January's national drowning toll in THE PRESS!

Oh, did you feel that grumbly 4.1 quake a wee while back??? More HERE! No, it was not another fencer falling over on the New Brighton pier.

26/1/2016: NOW FOR SOME FENCING GOS ....

This is what happens when you duel on the New Brighton pier, Christchurch, instead of fishing!

If falling down don't stop them perhaps a missing limb might?? Nah! Kiwi fencers are a pretty dedicated group as Auckland fencer Brian Pickworth, right, shows.

Read more about Picky HERE!

24/1/2016: DID YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO UNDERGO SPECIAL COURSES OF STUDY BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HANDLE ROAD CONES?

Road cones such as this one?

Or this ...

Or this.

And don't even think about these fellows on Pages Road the other day! Think of the dosh the Government must be raking in on GST (Goods and Services Tax) from them.

22/1/2016: HANDS UP IT'S FRIDAY IN SYDENHAM - UNLESS YOU DEAL WITH THAT WEIRD BUSINESS, 2dEGREES, WHO CALL THE FORMER BOROUGH AND GREAT CENTRAL CITY SUBURB, WOOLSTON!!!

The site of the former Tasty Tucker Cafe in Sydenham where Maureen died in the Great Catastrophe.

Signs among the rubble and weeds in Sydenham.

Religious rubble in Sydenham, once the site of a group of god botherers now abandoned - see more HERE!

Across the road from the religious rubble Harmon Motors have planted this wee fellow near the site of the former Sydenham Post Office.

And here it was....

20/1/2016: There are a few old dungas in Quakesville that Gerry and his Wastemakes didn't get their hands on ...

Here's a couple in Addington.

A flour MILL read more here!

And its mate. Read about them HERE!

Wot's an 'old dunga" you ask? See Gerry and his Wastemaker's view here!!

19/1/2016: G'DAY!

Here's another shot of the Dibble sculpture first posted on 4/1/2016 that has piqued your interest. Pic by 'M'.

Here's another work that has piqued your interest ....

The Margaret Mahy Playground by the Avon River on Manchester Street - how much did it cost - read more HERE! in the nation's top women's mag. Do the math, 'round a 160,000 rate-payers into $40,000,000 .... no wonder folks are cowering under the shade of the poplar trees at $250 a branch!!

15/1/2016: TWO WAY TRAFFIC ON PAGES ROAD ...

... was the breathless announcement by SKIRT in the local rag, the Christchurch Mail, after years of road cones, road closures and road detours.

Trouble is they didn't say that two-way meant head-on driving on one side of the road! See posting 21/12/2015 to discern any change.

Now here's a change .....

New houses on Waltham Road last year - all ploughed up.

Ready now for harvesting.

Will Pages Road, among many others, ever be as level and smooth as this driveway on Waltham Road tween Waltham School and Waltham Park?

14/1/2016: SHOPPING IN ST MARTINS.

Shopping can be a tad exciting at the New World supermarket in St Martins as a couple of postings recently show.

But this smash'n'grab this morning is going a bit too far say locals.

Though the supermarket's bakery does make great chicken and leek pies and tasty bread sticks much to the delight of regulars, so was it a case of smash'n'gobble or smash'n'puff, the drug cabinet is straight ahead, or smash'n'glug, the wine section is just to the right.

13/1/2016: NOW FOR SOME FENCING NEWS.

Do you know of any fencers who proposed during a duel??

Josh and Kathryn will be married in Auckland this Saturday. Former members of the University of Canterbury Fencing Club, Josh proposed to his beloved during a training session at the long-established club.

See more in the Archive section for 6/9/2015: REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF SEPTEMBER!!!

We salute you and We wish you well .......

10/2/2016: DASTARDLY CRIMINALS STRUCK IN WEE SYDENHAM THIS MORNING.

Bet this barber on Waltham Road would have a good use for a cut-throat razor?

Or the owner of these sewing machines would like to stitch up the criminals?
